ries with a physical stimulant. The idea is to practice thinking about pleasant memories while performing a subtle physical stimulant or “anchor”, such as touching the back of your hand or squeezing your finger. When your heart starts racing before having to give a presentation, simply trigger your anchor, and you will subcon- sciously associate the anchor with calm, slowing your heart rate. It will take some practice before it will work, but it could be a useful tool to ease last minute jitters. I’m sure I will still be apprehensive about giving my next presentation, but Nicole Pace-Addeo, M.A. provided countless helpful tips to be a success- ful public speaker. Just remember to relax, prepare, look and act confi- dent, speak slowly and clearly, and stay on topic. n

Please remember to keep your seminar completion certificates in a safe place. These certificates are distributed at the end of each CAI-NJ seminar. This is proof that you attended and completed the seminar. You may need to reference the certificate in the future and CAI-NJ does not keep track of each member’s attendance record. Community managers will definitely need the certificates to obtain credit for continuing education towards their designations.
