different. Repercussions for non com- pliance with the pool rules can range from a reprimand to the removal of the non complying party from the pool area. Keep in mind that rambunctious play is not simply a nuisance – it can result in serious injury if not addressed correctly. Thomas: I like to address the matter with the resident whose guests or chil- dren are involved in the complaints. It’s hard to stop “kids from being kids,” especially when it comes to playing in the community pool. Possibly discuss with the board setting up certain hours for children-only, or section off designat- ed areas for younger pool attendees. Weiner: From an insurance and risk management standpoint, if you identify a problem, you need to address it in a consistent way for all children and families involved. No child or parent should be singled out or handled in a way that could be interpreted as unfair or discriminatory. Association boards should be very clear with the expecta- tions of a 3rd party contracted lifeguard service so that decisions made and the messages to families remain consistent. Do you allow unattended chil- dren in the clubhouse after school hours, and if so, what are the guidelines that have been implemented for this activity?
