SPRING GREENING... from page 37.

Install Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations If a community is willing to make a large investment in going green, install ing electric vehicle charging stations is an extremely visual commitment to sustainability. Offering charging stations in your community will add a valuable amenity to homeowners who already own an EV, encourage other residents to steer clear of gas-powered cars, and help attract new environmentally conscious buyers in the future. Plus, there are federal, state, municipal and utility rebates, incentives, and tax credits to help offset the initial costs. When an HOA is ready to invest, the first step is to hire an electrical engineer to assess the building’s existing electrical systems,

identify any upgrades that may be nec essary and coordinate with the local utility company. While individual homeowners can make personal efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle, the scale of community associations allows for greater strides in decreasing our ecological footprint. Whether a condominium or home owners association makes small mod ifications like replacing incandescent with LED bulbs and sending newslet ters digitally or opts for big changes like upgrading to a high-efficiency boiler and installing electric vehicle charging stations, each action is a step toward community greening. This spring plant the seeds of sustainability in your neighborhood. n

as low as 56 percent whereas mod ern heating systems can achieve an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) of up to 98.5 percent. With that much improvement, upgrading to high-efficiency equipment can cut an association’s fuel bill and pol lution output substantially. Hiring a professional engineer to evaluate a building’s needs and specify the correctly sized/most efficient equip ment applicable is the best way for a condominium or HOA to estimate its potential savings and return on investment timeframe.
