MANAGEMENT TRENDS... from page 40.

• Sometimes, when a condition worsens, intervention or assistance may be necessary. Provide resources for working through the issue in a constructive way and with a great deal of sensitivity. Community association management is a hugely reward ing career, especially for those who are “people-oriented”, who want to help others, and who want to be challenged with new experiences throughout their careers. There’s a balancing point, however, when challenges can be over whelming. It is incumbent upon all of us to support each other in ways that we may not have thought necessary in years past! That is what will provide a formula for high standards of performance without burnout, depression, or mental health issues. n ________________________________________________ Acknowledgement: Grateful thanks to Bill Overton, PCAM and Shelley O’Keefe, SPHR whose presentation at the 2022 Annual CAI Conference inspired this article and upon which this article is largely based.

any condition that they are struggling with. And if they get to a level where they may be clinically depressed, provide them with what they need, in a positive/supportive culture. • Maintain a corporate culture of positivity and support for everyone on the team. Employees who fear for their jobs are much more likely to internalize problems that are creating stress…or worse! • Have a corporate policy of zero tolerance for anger in the workplace. In community association management, that’s difficult but necessary (in as much as most experi ences of anger is from homeowners of clients). Ensure that the boards of all clients are aware of this zero-toler ance policy and that they are prepared to support this position if the need should arise. • Recognize potential issues in others. Express care and be supportive. “Is everything okay?” Is there anything you’d like to talk about?”
