Spring Cleaning the Exterior: Keeping Pests Out Before They Get In

W hen most people think about spring cleaning, they picture closets, garages, and windows. But for community associations, spring is also the perfect time to focus on the outside of the property, especially when it comes to keeping pests from get ting indoors. As temperatures rise, insects and wildlife become more active and start looking for easy places to enter buildings. A little prevention now can go a long way during the warmer months. Start With a Walk Around the Property One of the simplest and most effective steps is a care ful walk around the building exterior. Small openings that may have gone unnoticed during winter can quickly become entry points for pests in spring.
Common areas to check include cracks in the foun dation, gaps where utility lines enter the building, and spaces around doors and windows. Worn weather stripping, damaged door sweeps, and loose window frames are especially inviting to insects and rodents. Rooflines, soffits, and vents should also be inspected, as these areas are often targeted by birds, squirrels, and other wildlife.
