handle various issues. When I started, no one had computers on their desks. We had 1 central computer in the office in 1997, I had 1 board that used email and now I have 3 monitors on my desk, at home and in the office. Texting, apps, and photos from smart phones have obviously changed the practice as well. With these changes have also come expectations of immediate responses, at all hours of the day, evening, and weekends. I’ve also seen the dispositions of residents in communities become nastier (or what ever word you would like to use) more recently. While there was more often a certain amount of respect shown to community association professionals, I see less of that today. MANAGEMENT TRENDS... from page 40.

It is refreshing that women are leaders and are continuing to influence lead ership trends. Having more opportunities to excel in a variety of industries and professions is progress. As a manager and past owner of a management firm, it is clear to me that because women dominate the field of community asso ciation management, the fees paid for professional management lag behind those of other professional services. According to the latest data, women only earn 92 cents compared with the one dollar paid to men. Therefore, I believe women need to move into the realm of entrepreneurship and true profit sharing as the only way women can achieve monetary equality and be in a position of power to directly impact equitable advancement and salaries. Let us all make this the Year of the Woman. n
