• Special Notices: Sometimes there are special reminders that are important to communicate, such as during seasonal changes (e.g., suggestions for maintaining a unit if the owner will be away for an extended timeframe during cold temperatures). • Minutes: Post minutes of recent meetings on the community’s web site, on a bulletin board in the community, or by other means to provide homeowner access to this important information. • Meeting interaction: As described above, allow for time at meetings for homeowners to interact with the board. Remember that attitude is contagious. If an owner starts to vent, allow them to finish venting and stay positive and receptive (note that being courteous and receptive does not necessarily require actual agree ment with the member. Sometimes the answer is not what the owner wants to hear, but it still is the answer. Receptive only means that you’re open to actively listening to their point of view). Communities rely on volunteer lead ers to run effectively and to protect the significant investment that community members have in their homes. Being a board member means volunteering to be a leader of a business and making good business decisions on behalf of all owners. It’s a role that can be extremely rewarding and one where you can truly make a difference. ◼
