O ne of the most important aspects of operating a community association is properly calling and documenting an open board meeting. This is especially true for associations that may have had board turnover and are now reconvening for the new year. Understanding that an association operates as a corpo ration, which requires meetings to be properly called and actions properly approved and memorialized, are essential to ensure transparency and accountability. The following is a summary of some of the recent changes to the law as embodied in the Radburn Bill and associated regulations relating to open board meetings. Of course, each commu

nity may have its own requirements and any specific questions should be discussed with the association’s attorney.

NOTICE – Does your community know about the meeting? 1. Post a schedule of your Association’s open board meet ings within seven days of your annual meeting. Put this schedule on the property in an area that is accessible to everyone, on your association’s website, and as part of a mailing to the membership.
