WORK/LIFE BALANCE... from page 34.

Where does remote work fit into all of this? Should it? My internal voice is screaming “YES!” We have become accustomed to relying on the flexibility to drop our kids off at school and pick them up or make a doctor’s appointment during a workday and not take the entire day off from work. Incorporating a level of acceptable remote work is again about trust. Are you getting the job done? Do you show up when it’s necessary? Are you able to focus when you need to? Are your co-workers “looking” for you or picking up your slack? Are you able to be responsive? These are all ques tions that should be answered, among others, when gauging your effectiveness at remote work. Remote work is not suitable for everyone. There are times that you may be more effective being in the workspace at a property or home office. Being at a dedicated office can give you the ability to focus solely on work and then have the long-missed commute home to decompress and think things out. The key is to ensure that your surroundings are conducive to productivity. The world has changed, work has changed, and we have changed. Change isn’t always bad. But it is important to recognize what is and isn’t working for you and to adapt or adjust when necessary. n “Incorporating a level of acceptable remote work is again about trust.”
