Conclusion While the CAI Ethics Code is not an exhaustive list of all possible items, the ethical principles which form the basis for the above eight guidelines can be universally applied to virtually any scenario a board may face. The common thread of these guidelines is the concept of fiduciary duty. If boards look at every situation, oppor- tunity and problem through the lens of what is best for the community, boards will not only be complying with their ethical obligations, but also acting in a manner that best serves the long- term success of their community. n
