driver sight distances to ensure adequate visual obser- vation of the device before a driver is maneuvering over the area. 3) Resident consideration: The proposed speed calm- ing devices should be located to reduce a vehicles chanc- es of entering or exiting from driveways and having to back up over the speed humps prior to moving forward onto the roadways. The type of device also lends itself to this consideration. Wider type devices will encroach in the driveway within the vehicle’s exiting path instead of a thinner device. 4) Number of devices: Avoid creating a situation where driving through the roadways would be significantly encumbered. 5) Visual: Stop bars, stop signs or speed readers can be proposed at areas of concern to increase awareness of the speed, intersections or blind spots.

6) Four-way stop intersections: This allows for a full stoppage at this location reducing vehicle speeds in these locations. 7) Lowering speed limits: Lowering the speed limits in the community can be in effective in lowering the typical speed of a vehicle. Using the above criteria, a community can find that there are many areas at the site where excessive speeds are being used and attempt to locate speed calming devices and other speed control methods accordingly.
