Listening to the experts on how to prepare for these types of situations is not enough. When these events become so frequent that we remem- ber these tragedies only for as long as the next tragedy this is not a good strategy. Before each one of these tragedies, community members were thinking this cannot happen at our office, in our apartment building, or our community. Rather than forget the most recent tragedy it is time for emergency preparedness be placed on a property managers calendar just like the annual fire sprinkler inspection or smoke alarm inspection. We may not be able to prevent this from happening but being better prepared can be lifesaving. n
