amounts of time to spend working with their property managers can change quickly due to commitments other than the voluntary service of being on the board. A management company must do its part to retaining talent, while the property manager must buy into the message of each community. Not all condo association will believe in reserve studies. Not all condo asso- ciations will believe it newsletters. I can go on and on with the differentia- tions of each community. While these may seem like basic and unwavering requirements for planning and commu- nication, it is not the property manager’s job to force their beliefs. They must believe in a cohesive message as directed by the respective board. When assigning a property manager to an association, a man- aging agent must prepare them for ever-changing messages. Hunter to Hunted The person that tried recruiting me presented the opportunity as if he was selling me a new shiny Corvette. Don’t believe for an instant that talented prop- erty managers aren’t getting these same calls, whether from another company, a different space market, or a completely different industry. Property managers of community associations have created their brand. The successful ones have ingratiated themselves with the com- munity they manage, making them a valuable resource for their companies. Keeping this talent more now than ever requires creative thinking from property management companies to attract and retain talent top talent. n
