DOG AT WORK... from page 36.
What if more than one person wants to bring in their dog? This can get hairy! There are more than 1,000 dogs at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters. Experts say that this has lowered time out of the office and increased longevity of employ- ees. It also encourages interactions between employees that may not have spoken much before having the common subject of the dog between them. The more dogs there are, the more the rules need to be enforced. Introduce new dogs slowly. Allow them to socialize with each other at their own pace. Set boundaries for each dog so they have a “safe place” that is just theirs. Although dogs can be a great addition, it is important to remember that not every dog is appropriate for the workplace. from the restroom. Similarly, employ- ees should not feed the dog. People will tend to get treats for the dog. Too much of a good thing can cause weight gain and can be unhealthy for the dog. Healthy treats only, such as apples, with a limit! Having a dog in the office also means walking the dog. Ultimately, this is the responsibility of whoever owns the dog. However, it can be expanded to include co-workers in the office. You will find that other employees will volunteer to take fif- teen minutes or so to walk the dog. It is healthy and refreshing and will ultimately revitalize both the human and the dog.
