W e are entering a second pool season impact- ed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While most community associations in New Jersey opted not to open their pools for use in 2020 , many are consid- ering their options for 2021 in light of the success of the vaccine deployment and other safety protocols that can be implemented. By now, most associations should have made their decision to open, delay the opening or simply keep the pool closed and maintained in 2021 . For those communities that have decided to open we are providing a brief review of the New Jersey Department of Health’s COVID-19 Outdoor Pool Standards. This content is designed to help managers and boards understand the breadth of requirements. Anyone charged with developing a Community Pool Operation Prevention Plan should reference the complete state documents rather than this checklist. Of course, all of the normal requirements
for pool operation prior to the pandemic remain in effect. It is important to keep in mind that the state may make changes to its COVID-19 guidance, so be sure to verify the most current requirements with your pool professionals, management, and counsel. Community Pool Operation Prevention Plan (CPOPP) Each community will need to develop its own written CPOPP , that conforms with the state guidance for pool operations during the pandemic. This document will be your road map for operating in the summer of 2021 in a compliant fashion. The plan must be approved by the local health authority before implementation and opening the pool. Your pool professional will work with your community manager and/or board of directors to build a specific plan for your community.
