life balance. A community association manager position is not a traditional nine to five. It often can be a twenty-four hour job. It is important to be able to provide for our team’s flexibility to achieve the work-life balance that associates are looking for. Technology to Perform — Providing the right technology will allow our teams to process effectively and efficiently. Modern technology platforms allow managers to perform tasks that were only available via a desktop or laptop computer. For example, now employees can perform site inspections, issue violations and process work orders via apps that are completed once the inspection is completed. Technology will also allow residents to more effectively manage their personal homeowner’s association accounts which will also lesson the burden of day-to-day calls which will allow for better overall efficiencies for our employees. Compensation — We have found that although one of the most important parts of keeping employees happy is the pay rate, providing the above items sometimes outweighs salary. Salaries are one of the trickiest things to navigate as part of this process. The expectations from managers CONT I NU E S ON PAGE 40

be trained effectively in industry best practices as well as the individual company’s internal operations. A ninety-day training period in-house, seeing things from an admin role through an accounting role will prepare our new hires to be successful in the industry. Industry Best Practices — Institutions like CAI and IREM are critical to developing good managers that will last within the industry. CAI provides for best practices across the industry and provide for designations that reflects the knowledge base of our employees. In addition, mart boards keep their eyes and ears open with our ever-chang ing industry. It is essential that our teams stay ahead of the curve. Additional publications like Community Trends ® and The Cooperator are great resources to stay up to speed on community association information. Flexible Schedules — Flexible work schedules are one area that employees are demanding as part of their work
